Learn about common post fire contaminants, soil testing, exposure reduction, treatment timelines, and when bioremediation may or may not be appropriate for a property. Soil testing and professional oversight remain essential throughout the process.

Community Recovery Assessment

In February 2026, the Consortium surveyed the community to learn about households’ most pressing needs, from soil remediation and fire-adapted landscaping to rebuilding resources and long-term resilience planning. Native sunflowers are wonderful.
They just aren’t bioremediation.

There’s been a lot of confusion about planting after fires. We wrote a short explainer on why native sunflowers, while valuable, are not bioremediation and what real soil cleanup actually involves.
