During a beach cleanup at Will Rogers State Beach, Resilient Palisades volunteers collected bags of trash while the ocean offered up something much more unsettling: melted aluminum, twisted metal, tile and other remnants of homes destroyed in the Palisades Fire.
In this reflection, Sara G. Marti considers what it means to find pieces of a community still washing ashore a year and a half after the fire, and the strange ways nature, memory and grief continue processing what happened.
